Things to Do in San Marcos, Texas

If you are considering your next move, San Marcos might be a great option for you, with plenty of access to nature, activities, community and unique establishments that cater to a wide variety of interests. It’s important that you love where you live, and you can be confident that there is something for you in San Marcos.

Glass Bottom Boat Tours

Spring Lake in San Marcos is an untouched spring-fed lake that is nearly 30 feet deep with a diverse ecosystem. These glass bottom boat rides will allow you to take it all in, and see fish that were born over a hundred years ago. A great activity to bring the whole family to.

Night Life

San Marcos is well known for its nightlife, with something for everybody. There are laid back pool halls if you just want to unwind and get a game in. Tons of bars have outdoor seating and a relaxing atmosphere, and they cater to the crowd that just wants to meet up with friends and chat. There is also a bar arcade in town that has plenty of arcade games and activities that make it easy to invite people along and have fun every time. A putt putt course that is 21+ and allows drinking on the green. And of course, tons of great bars to meet people and dance, as well as clubs. Whatever you are looking for, there is something that caters to it.

Concert and Live Music

Live music is a big part of Central Texas culture. Plenty of bars and coffee shops have a designated day where they will have a live band play, and people can just come and listen. Cheatham Street Warehouse is a live venue that has some of the biggest names in country music play regularly, and it has been a staple of the town for decades. Many musicians got their start here. The Marc has bands of all types, and while they have days where they will have a specific type of music playing, they are best known for their electronic music.

Outlet Malls

Tanger Outlets and San Marcos Premium Outlets are well-known for the great deals and wide variety of shopping destinations they have. Almost all big name brands have a store here, as well as some also having factory outlets that have good deals on their regular items. The San Marcos outlets regularly make lists of the top destinations that are visited in San Marcos. Stores that most towns don’t have are available here, and whatever your style you will find something to like here.

EVO Entertainment—Springtown

San Marcos’s version of Alamo Drafthouse, this theater (formerly called “The Spot”) is a great place to see a movie, grab a beer, have a meal, bowl, play arcade or virtual reality games, or just hang out and play washers or pool. In-movie service means you can enjoy food and drinks while you watch.

LBJ Museum

Lyndon B. Johnson went to Texas State University (then Southwest Texas), and as an ode to him there is a museum with info about his life and deeds. From critical moments in the Vietnam war to trying to pass civil rights legislation and more, there are some big historical moments chronicled here. He also had an amazing way of dealing with people, and museum guests can lean about some of his interactions with those who worked for him that are, quite honestly, hilarious (including a conversation with his tailor about needing more room).

More

San Marcos has bowling alleys, close proximity to Gruene, a drive-in theater, disc golf trails, woodland paintball and speedball arenas, great dining, plenty of parks for families, unicycle football and tons of other great community-based activities. There truly is something for everyone in this small town that has all the amenities of a big city. And for those occasions where you’re looking for something different, Austin and San Antonio are both short drives away for an easy day trip.
