Maybe you’re still looking for a home in San Marcos, TX, or maybe you’ve just moved in. Either way, we’d love to welcome you to our town and provide you with a list of some popular attractions we think you should check out!
The San Marcos River
Many residents love spending the day at the refreshing San Marcos River. The water stays at a constant 72 degrees, making it great year-round. You can grab a tube and go for a relaxing float, or rent a kayak or stand-up paddle if you’re up for an adventure. Even if you don’t want to get in the water, there’s plenty of beautiful places to pick from to enjoy a nice picnic.
San Marcos Outlet Malls
San Marcos is home to the Tanger and Premium outlets, two of the most popular malls in the U.S. People travel for hundreds of miles to shop here, and when you visit them you’ll see why. The malls are adjacent to one another and offer a staggering variety of stores to shop at. They offer tons of parking, but it can fill up quickly, especially on weekends and holidays, so be sure to get there early or go on a weekday. With great deals, it’s a great place to treat yourself or take the family, but don’t expect to cover everything in one day!
Commemorative Air Force Central Texas Wing
If you’re interested in history or old planes, be sure to visit the Central Texas Wing of the Commemorative Air Force. You can take a tour to see some of the many planes that are currently being worked on, and there’s a great gallery with a lot of interesting articles and items on display. If you’re looking for a place to take your kids, look no further!
Wonder World Park
Wonder World Park is a great place to take the family for a few hours. You can go on a fully-guided tour that includes exploring a cave, experiencing an anti-gravity house, and a train through an animal park where you can feed deer right out of your hand. For pricing and more info, you can visit the Wonder World Park website.
Three Dudes Winery
If you’re a wine lover, be sure to check out Three Dudes Winery. Their Texas wines come highly recommended by many. You can enjoy a cozy tasting room with staff that know their wines. The selection of wine is small, but they are excellent. Once you find a wine you love you can relax on the covered patio which overlooks the river and enjoy the scenic atmosphere. For more information about the Three Dudes Winery, visit their website here.
The Wittliff Collections
The Wittliff Collections located inside the Alkek Library at Texas State University offer up some great displays. They’ve featured everything from amazing photography exhibits to awesome retro music posters from the 60’s & 70’s Austin music scene. In addition to four or five exhibitions, they also have a permanent collection called the Lonesome Dove Collection, which features world-class Southwestern & Mexican photography. For a list of current and upcoming exhibitions, you can visit their website.
